My dad's dad died yesterday. His health had been deteriorating for some time so it was no surprise. In some ways it is a relief to certain members of the family, for reasons I won't go into (but which I will stipulate have nothing to do with my grandfather directly, lest anyone think I speak ill of the recently departed). He will be missed, though, by all of us. He did his best to provide for his family and adhere to his beliefs, and in so doing his 82 years (not least the 22 he served in the US Navy) provide an example of service to which anyone can aspire. He loved his country, his God, and his family.

RIP James Marvin Jackson, 1922-2004.
